art is more than just color on a surface… the role of the artist is to to breath life into what they are working on. when i start a painting i see it only as paint on a surface. it’s not until after the entire surface is covered in pigment can i go to “work”.
i apply layers and layers of paint over top one another until the paint ceases to be just paint on a surface and comes alive. i can see it. i can look at the painting and see where it is “dead” and where it is “alive”.
my current painting in the studio will need at least 1 dozen more layers of paint. it is difficult to post images of it in this stage… as you really need to be standing before it to see the differences. even to a trained eye the subtle changes need to be pointed out.

i have updated my paintings page with new images as well as links to larger images within the individual images gallery. just click on the image in the individual gallery and it will load in a 1600×1600 image. much easier to see. just hit your “back” button to return to the individual gallery.

my favorite part about painting these is watching them come together…. 38″ x 48″ oil on canvas.
