the wonders of photoshop… sometimes when i want to see how something will look on my painting i take it into photoshop and add it in there. i was wanting to see how the painting would look with the “eye” detail i was working with… so i started with a pic from the studio…

then i added in the “eyes” as i was going to paint them…

now i can’t wait to see it finished. a couple more weeks and i should be done with it.

art is more than just color on a surface… the role of the artist is to to breath life into what they are working on. when i start a painting i see it only as paint on a surface. it’s not until after the entire surface is covered in pigment can i go to “work”.
i apply layers and layers of paint over top one another until the paint ceases to be just paint on a surface and comes alive. i can see it. i can look at the painting and see where it is “dead” and where it is “alive”.
my current painting in the studio will need at least 1 dozen more layers of paint. it is difficult to post images of it in this stage… as you really need to be standing before it to see the differences. even to a trained eye the subtle changes need to be pointed out.

i have updated my paintings page with new images as well as links to larger images within the individual images gallery. just click on the image in the individual gallery and it will load in a 1600×1600 image. much easier to see. just hit your “back” button to return to the individual gallery.

i have put up a section for selling my 2010 calendar. this will be the 10th calendar i have published since 1997. they are printed onto 11×17 acid free 80# cover weight paper, then wire bound and drilled for hanging. each month is a “plate” suitable for framing/hanging. (i also do a hand drawing on the cover and sign it) click on the image below and it will take you to the calendar.
